Horrocks is a small cray fishing community 75k m north of Geraldton. Many keen anglers visit Horrocks every year. There is a small caravan park walking distance to the beach. Horrocks fishing spots are great for both land based and small boat anglers. The sheltered waters provide safe access to beach fishing and close inshore for boat anglers. Common fish species targeted from the beach include Tailor, Whiting, Samson Fish, Silver Trevally, Mulloway and Sharks. Offshore anglers can expect Pink Snapper, Dhufish, Baldchin Groper, Tuna and Mackerel.

The main fishing spot is the small jetty. There are mostly small Tailor and Whiting taken here, however Mulloway are known to come in close.

Waigen Lake

The beaches to the south of Horrocks are not protected and large swells often pound the beaches and reefs. The fishing can be great around Waigen Lakes / Tulmuinga Creek, particularly when the creek is open to the ocean. Large Mulloway and Tailor come to feed in the murky water, it also attracts sharks.

Horrocks Beach

Around town, casting poppers and metal slugs over the reef holes can be effective for small Tailor, it is best fished at dawn and dusk. A light sea breeze also helps to attract the tailor closer to shore. Small whiting can be taken in shallow waters.

Little Bay

Heading north a four wheel drive track leads to Little Bay. The protected bay is a good place to launch a small boat. The beach fishing here can also be good for Mulloway and Tailor.

Heading further north from Little Bay is almost impossible due to private property and the cliffs of Kalbarri make it hard to access to the beach.

Offshore Horrocks Fishing

The protected bay of Horrocks is a great place for small boats. Autumn is a great time to visit Horrock as the winds are ideal. Inside the reef of Horrocks produces Mulloway, Tailor and Whiting. At the back of the reef produces Pink Snapper, Baldchin Groper, Dhufish and Mackerel in Summer.

Some good spots for small boats are north of Cape Burney near Tarcoola Beach inside the reef. Here anglers can target Mulloway and Tailor.

Hello. What fish should we be targetting in a very small boat inside the reef at horrocks and bait. We are ther 1st week in the july school holidays with young kids Thanks in advance for the help

    • Luke Van Lathum

      says:

Hi Scott, I hope its not too late to reply! You should expect Whiting, Tailor and Herring inside the reef. The tailor will be around the surf and white waters, hopefully there pretty think up there for you! At this time of year you might even get lucky with a Mulloway or 2, but you will need nice fresh bait. If you get a nice enough day, you might be able to venture just outside the reef, there might be some bluefin tuna around, just watch for birds working the surface. Good luck!
