Where to go fishing near Exmouth Gulf Reef?

  • Otway Reef Approximately 42km from the boat ramp, just outside the Muiron Islands Management Area, this reef fishes well for reef fish and pelagics.
  • Spider Reef Approximately 50km from the boat ramp (straight line), spider reef has good fishing for Coral Trout, Trevally, Queenfish, Tuskfish and Emperor. Mackerel are also around in the deeper waters.
  • Combe Reef Approximately 35km from the boat ramp, Combe reef is a shallow reef however the deeper waters surrounding have Mackerel and Sailfish. The reef has good fishing for Emperor, Coral Trout, Tuskfish and big Trevally.
  • Exmouth Reef 2 Approximately 26km from the boat ramp, this reef forms a good land mark for trolling to the west in the deeper waters for Sailfish, Mackerel and Tuna. The reef itself holds Emperor, Coral Trout, Tuskfish and pelagics like Trevally.
  • Exmouth Reef 27km from the Exmouth boat ramp, reef 4m deep, western waters are up to 20m deep and has good trolling for Sailfish and Mackerel. The reef holds emperor, coral trout, cod and pelagics.
  • Beryl Reef Approximately 30km from the Exmouth boat ramp, has good reef and pelagic fishing. Mackerel and Sailfish also around in deeper waters west of the reef.
  • Exmouth Gulf Reef 14km from the Exmouth boat ramp, reef 8-9m deep holds good reef and pelagic fish at times.
  • Cooper Shoal 16km from the Exmouth boat ramp, Cooper Shoal is about 3m deep surrounded by deeper water. Holds good reef and pelagic fish.
  • Exmouth Gulf Reef Approximately 16km from the Exmouth boat ramp, reef about 6-7m deep surrounded by deep water has good reef and pelagic fish at times.
  • Exmouth Gulf Reef Approximately 28km from exmouth boat ramp, reef about 4-5m deep holds good reef and pelagic fish at times.
  • Exmouth Reef Approximately 28km from the Exmouth boat ramp, 4m deep reef that has good reef and pelagic fishing.
  • Exmouth Gulf Reef Approximately 32km from the Exmouth boat ramp, reef about 3m deep surrounded by deeper water 5-6m deep, has good reef and pelagic fishing at times.

  • Exmouth Gulf Reef Approximately 40km from the Exmouth boat ramp, this rise is 5m deep and holds good reef fish and pelagics at times.
  • Learmonth Rise Approximately 8km north of the Learmonth beach boat launch, this reef 4-5m deep holds good reef fish and pelagics at times.
  • Learmonth Rise Approximately 3km from Learmonth beach launch, this rise is only 2m deep however holds good reef fish and pelagics at times.
  • Learmonth Rise Approximately 10km from Learmonth beach boat launch, small reef 2-3m surrounded by deeper water, holds reef fish at times as well as pelagics.
  • Wapet Creek Wapet Creek can be accessed via four wheel drive from the beach north of the Learmouth Airport. In the creek are Mangrove Jacks and Bream. The odd Threadfin Salmon mainly when the creek is open to the ocean.
  • End of the Reef The end of the reef here is a good spot to fish on both incoming and outgoing tides. Trevally, Queenfish and the odd Threadfin Salmon particularly if there is murky water around.
  • Exmouth South Beach South of Exmouth the beaches produce Whiting, Bream and Trevally. The spots along here offer peace and quiet and it is possible to go a day without seeing another person.
  • Exmouth Marina The Exmouth Marina is a great spot to target Mangrove Jack on lures around the pylons during summer. Giant Herring have also been caught from the rocks. Queenfish, Trevally and Mackerel also hang out around the Marina rock walls and will all take lures.
  • Exmouth Beach The beaches to the east of Exmouth produce some good fishing for Whiting, Bream and the odd Trevally.
  • Oyster Reef Oyster Reef fishes well for Trevally and Queenfish. The deeper water is further south east of the Mildura Wreck.
  • Vlamingh Head Vlamingh Head is best fished on high tide. Anglers can expect Spangled Emperor, Bluebone Tuskfish and Trevally.
  • Mesa Camp Mesa Camp has a good point for targeting Spangled Emperor, Trevally and Cod.
  • Pilgramunna A good rocky platform that produces Spangled Emperor, Tusk Fish, Coral Trout and Trevally. The odd Mangrove Jack in the deep caves of the reef.
  • Yardie Creek Yardie Creek is at the end of Cape Range National Park. Fishing is allowed north from the beach north of the creek. Anglers can target Cod, Bluebone, Coral Trout around the reefs. Trevally and Queenfish also lurk around the reefs and beaches.
  • Sandy Point / Bundegi Bundegi is a natural boat harbour for small boats and offers good protection from swells. Sandy point itself is a hot spot for Trevally and Queenfish. The odd Spangled Emperor are also caught here.
  • Winderabandi Point A beautiful camp spot, Winderabundi Point is in a sanctuary zone however beach fishing is allowed at the time of writing. The shallow waters are separated by reef outcrops, Bonefish can be found foraging along the sandy bottom. Trevally and Queenfish come in close to smash bait fish. Cod and Bream hang around close to the reef structures.
  • Point Billie A beautiful spot to camp, the beaches of Point Billie are lined with reef outcrops just offshore. Anglers can target Trevally, Queenfish, Cod, Bream and Spangled Emperor.
  • Point Edgar / Janes Bay Janes Bay just south of Ningaloo Homestead is within Cloates Sanctuary, however beach fishing is allowed. The beaches here produce some good fishing for Spangled Emperor, Trevally and Bream. Look for isolated reef outcrops and deeper channels.
