Where to go fishing near Onslow Shoal?

• Ashburton Rise Approximatey 10km from the Ashburton Boat Ramp, these reef patch holds good reef fish.
• Ashburton Rise Good reef rise about 12km from the Ashburton River boat ramp, holds good reef fish.
• Tortoise Island Approximately 30km from Onslow and 16km from the Ashburton River, Tortoise Island has good reef fishing.
• Miles Shoal Approximately 17km from Onslow, Miles Shoal is about 4-5m deep and holds good reef fish.
• Paroo Shoal 13km offshore from Onslow, Paroo Shoal is about 3m deep and holds good reef fish.
• Koolinda Patch Approximately 10km from Onslow, approximately 3m deep, Koolina patch holds Coral Trout, Grass Emperor and more reef fish.
• Weeks Shoal Approximately 13km from Onslow, Weeks Shoal is 8m deep. Holds Coral Trout, Spangled Emperor, Grass Emperor and more.
• Saladin Shoal Approximately 11km offshore from Onslow, close to Hastings Shoal, approximate 2m deep. Holds good fish at times, Tuskfish, Coral Trout and Spangled Emperor.
• Hastings Shoal To the east of the main shipping channel, the shoal holds good fish at times.
• Island Creek Located about 11km from Beadon Creek boat ramp, Island Creek holds Trevally, Queenfish, Bream, Flathead, Mangrove Jack, Cod, Threadfin Salmon and Javelin fish. There are many spots to explore here, the small feeder creeks hold threadfin salmon. The shallow flats are good places to target Trevally. The main channel seems to fish the best on an outgoing tide.
• Third Creek Located about 8.5km from Beadon Creek boat ramp Third Creek is well worth exploring. Bigger than Second Creek, fishing here is good for Mangrove Jack, Cod, Threadfin Salmon, Flathead, Bream, Javelin and even the odd Barramundi in Summer.
• Second Creek / Coorong Creek One of the better creeks to fish, Coorong Creek is about 4km by boat from Beadon Creek boat ramp. Coorong Creek fishes well for Mangrove Jack, Cod, Bream and small threadfin Salmon. Barramundi are a rare catch here.
• Beadon Creek A good spot for the family, the rock wall and jetty provide a good spot for anglers to soak some bait. The Beadon Creek produces Mangrove Jack, Bream, Trevally, Queenfish, Cod and Flathead. Trevally and Queenfish along the rock wall.
• 4-Mile Creek A nice spot to cast out a bait, 4 Mile River has small mangrove Jack, Bream, Flathead and whiting.
• Oakover River A series of small creeks with shallow entries, be careful not to get stranded in the creek as the tide drops. These creeks hold Mangrove Jack, Bream, Whiting, Cod and Flathead.
• Ashburton River The saltwater section has some good fishing for Mangrove Jacks, Trevally, small Threadfin, Cod, Bream and the odd Black Jewfish. Hard body lures cast tight into structure is the go for Cod and Jacks. Read more on the Onslow fishing spots page.
