Located approximately 400km north of Sydney, Hastings River rises in the Great Dividing Range and flows south where is meets the ocean at Port Macquarie. Fishing Spots at Hastings River for land based anglers revolves around the river mouth, the southern rock wall is right in town along with great accommodation options for holidaying anglers. The Hastings River is a declared Recreational FIshing Haven therefore there is no commercial fishing allowing within the river, this makes fishing around Port Macquarie well worth it.

Port Macquarie Fishing Spots

The southern breakwall in town provide some good land based fishing in Port Macqaurie for Mulloway, Tailor, Bream and Black fish. The wharf is also a great place for kids to enjoy fishing, this structure attracts Bream and Blackfish, and soaking a bait is a easy way to catch a fish here. Surrounding Port Macquarie are some great beaches and rocky headlands that also provide great fishing and secluded spots for the family to enjoy. 

A small boat or Kayak is a great way to access upstream and the canals of Hastings River, where lure anglers can target Bream, Flathead and Mulloway. The canals are a popular spot to cast soft plastics and hardbody lures for some great bream fishing. Limeburners creek has some great structure like oyster leases to target bream and flathead. Boat hire is available at Settlement Point and this can be well worth it for a fun day fishing with the kids.

The headlands and beaches around Port Macquarie provide some excellent fishing for Mulloway, Tailor and Bream. North Beach is a great spot to drive along the beach and find some good gutters for Tailor, Bream, Whiting, Flathead and Mulloway. 

Further upstream of Hastings River and Maria / Wilson River, the water turns Brackish, here anglers can target native Australian Bass. Pipers Creek, Wilson River and the upper Hastings are popular for Bass fishing.
