Cathie Creek is a shallow creek that is often closed off to the ocean therefore the fishing is not spectacular in the creek. However if you are holidaying or passing through Cathie Creek, it is still worthwhile to soak some bait with the kids as the creek provides a relaxing atmosphere and fishing for kids.

The main catches in Cathie Creek are whiting, Bream, Flathead and Luderick. Yabbies are the best bait and can be pumped from the shallow sand flats at Lake Cathie Foreshore reserve and along the shallow flats off Kenwood Drive.

Along the beach can be productive beach fishing for Tailor, Bream, Dart and Flathead. If the creek has broken through to the ocean there are often some gutters formed which can make for some great beach fishing.

Further upstream anglers can find a picturesque creek it is best explored by kayak. Cast soft plastics into channels and between weed bed patches will produce flathead and bream.
