Augusta Fishing Spots

Augusta is well worth a visit for any kind of angler, it offers great estuary, beach and offshore fishing spots. Located approximately 400km from Perth is does have some fishing pressure by Perth anglers, however there is still some great fishing spots in Augusta.

The large Hardy Inlet is fed by the Blackwood and Scott Rivers which are best fished from kayak or small boat. Hardy Inlet, Blackwood and Scott Rivers offer fantastic fishing for Black Bream, as well as whiting, Trevally (skippy) and Blue spotted flathead.

Flinders Bay in Augusta also offers some great fishing in protected waters, anglers do not have to go far offshore for some great reef fishing. Negotiating the bar crossing in a boat to Flinders Bay can be hazarderous and should only be attempted in good conditions. Once in the bay the best choice to catch fish is bottom jigging for Dhufish, Snapper, Samson Fish and Skippy.

Augusta Beach Fishing Spots

Augusta has some great beach fishing spots and rock headlands that are well worth a fishing trip. A four wheel drive makes it easier to access some of the more remote fishing spots in Augusta.

Heading from Hardy Inlet towards Windy Harbour there are numerous tracks down to the beach that offer fantastic fishing at times. Along this stretch of beach a few creeks and rivers flow into the ocean attracting fish, this spots are great from late summer to autumn to target Australian Salmon. Warren River is the best fishing spot along the Augusta to Windy Harbour stretch of beach.

Along the stretch of beach is many deeper channels that offer good fishing for Mulloway, Tailor, Flathead, Skippy, Whiting and Australian Salmon during the migration season.

Blackwood River Fishing

Blackwood River is recognised as a fantastic fishing spot for big Black Bream. The river is lined with thick snags, casting soft plastics and hard body minnows deep into structure is a highly effective way to land these fish. Fish from Molloy Island to Alexander Bridge, casting at the snags, remember to use relatively light line to increase hits, but be warned bream up to 2kg are regularly encountered.

Many anglers also encounter King George and Yellowfin whiting in the Blackwood River. A small boat or kayak is the most effect way to fish the River.

Hamelin Bay

Best fishing in a small boat, close inshore fish for Herring, Whiting, and Skippy. Further offshore there is great fishing for Dhufish, Pink Snapper, Samson Fish, Yellowtail Kingfish and Queen Snapper. Australian Salmon from the beach in late summer to autumn.

Cosy Corner

Herring and Salmon from the beach, late summer to autumn.

Skippy Rock

Fishing here only during calm conditions. Good rock fishing for Tailor, skippy and Samson fish. Australian Salmon from late summer to autumn. Pink snapper in deeper water just offshore.

Hardy Inlet

Hardy Inlet is a beautiful water way that offers some great fishing spots for Black Bream, King George Whiting, Yellowfin whiting, Skippy, herring and flathead.

Windy Harbour

Windy harbour is a remote camping area that offers beach launching of a small boat. Land based and near shore of Windy Harbour fishes well for herring, King George Whiting and sometimes Australian Salmon from late summer to autumn. Further offshore the fishing gets better, anglers can target dhufish, Samson fish, Pink and Queen Snapper by bottom jigging soft plastics.
