Around Snapper Island and Cape Kimberley has good reef that holds Coral Trout, Emperor, Mackerel, big Trevally and Queenfish. Close to the marker is a drop off from 9m to 20m.

Where to go fishing near Snapper Island Reefs?

  • Chartered Wreck east of Mowbray River Chartered wrest east of Mowbray River in about 15-18m of water.
  • Chartered Wreck off Port Douglas Chartered Wreck off Port Douglas in about 16m of water, well worth a fish.
  • Mossman River The Mossman River is a great spot for most estuary fish and Crabs. Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Fingermark, Grunter and Jungle Perch
  • Muddy Creek Muddy Creek holds most estuary fish, including Flathead, Javelin, Bream, Barramundi and Mud Crabs. Deep water near the mouth.
  • Port Douglas Headland Head through
  • Dicksons Inlet Hole Deep hole on the East side of the bend holds Golden Snapper and Grunter. A deeper water section further upstream -on the next bend, is also good for Bream.
  • Dicksons Inlet Junction At the junction where the river meets is a prime spot for Barramundi and Jacks on the outgoing tide. Watch out for Crocs!
  • 4 Mile Beach Great beach fishing on the Southern end of famous 4-Mile Beach in Port Douglas. Fish the incoming tide on calm days for Trevally, Queenfish, Whiting and the odd Black-tipped Shark and Ray every now and then.
  • Dicksons Inlet Wharf Flick some lures around the pylons for a good chance at many estuary species. The wharf
