Calm weather only! Some great rock fishing close to Yamba, here anglers can catch longtail Tuna, Spanish Mackerel, Bream and Tailor. To the south at the beach, the pocket in here produces Bream, Whiting and Flathead.

Where to go fishing near Yamba Point?

  • Angourie Point There are some fantastic rock ledges at Angourie Point for fishing, Tuna, Mackerel and Tailor are all common catches. Park at Angourie Bay picnic area and walk out to the point ledges. To the north Angourie beach produces Tailor, Bream and Mulloway.
  • Green Point Park at the top of Green Point road and walk down the rock ledges to fish for tailor and bream off Green Point, bait works the best here.
  • Barri Point This rocky outcrop produces Bream, Tailor and Mulloway. A rising tide is best.
  • Iluka Beach Some great gutters along here access is via four wheel drive, and its easy to get a beautiful fishing spot to yourself close to Iluka and Yamba. Bream, Tailor and Whiting are the main catches.
  • Iluka Bluff Fishing off the rocks will produce Bream, Tailor and the occasional Mulloway. To the north west along the beach is sheltered from big swells and will produce Bream, Whiting and Flathead.
  • Middle Bluff Good tailor fishing off the rocks in calm weather only. Bream and Mulloway are also common catches here, bait works well however tailor will take metal slugs.
  • Woody Head Some great fishing here for Bream, Tailor, Mulloway and even Spanish Mackerel. Tailor come here in large numbers so bring some metal slugs around 80g. Longtail tuna have also been caught here so bring some big sport fishing gear!
  • Shark Bay headland Great bream and Tailor fishing off the rocks. The beaches either side also have good Flathead. Metal slugs work well for tailor here.
  • Black Rocks campground A nice place to camp, the beach out the front of Black Rocks Campground produces Bream, Whiting and Tailor. Look for the deeper water and gutters on an incoming tide.
  • Jerusalem Creek Fish the creek mouth after a big wet for Bream, Flathead and Whiting. Otherwise small bream, flathead and whiting in the creek.
  • Sportsman Creek Bream and the occasional Mangrove Jack in summer in Sportsman Creek. Further upstream in the Brackish and Freshwater is some good fishing for Australian Bass.
  • Sportsman Creek Bridge The run out tide here fishes well for Bream and Flathead around the pylons.
  • Broadwater run out tide The drop off here fishes well on a runout tide for Bream, Flathead and small Mulloway, live bait works best but bream and flathead will readily take frozen baits.
  • South arm rocks Large set of rocks at the mouth of South Arm, fish this spot on the run out tide for Bream and Mulloway mostly, bait works well but be careful of snags!
  • Mororo Bridge Good bream and mulloway fishing in the deep hole and around the pylons of Mororo Bridge.
  • Goodwood Island Bridge The bridge pylons and rocks to the north and another set of rocks on the north bank upstream hold good bream. Mulloway are sometimes caught around the bridge in the deeper hole.
  • Palmers Rock wall Drift along the rock wall for good size bream.
  • Palm Channel and gutters The 3 channels here fish well on a run out tide for Flathead. At the top of the tide access to possible up into the channels, this is a quiet fishing spot on weekends and well worth a look if there is a lot of boat traffic.
  • Nihill Island All the small drains, sandbars and drop offs around here fish well for Flathead on soft plastics. Yabby beds at low tide and whiting move onto the sand flats on a incoming tide.
  • Bill Weiley Bridge Esk River is a popular fishing spot for Mangrove Jack in summer. Bream and flathead are also caught throughout the river all year around, great for casting hardbody and soft plastic lures.
  • Bolorobo Island Channel Drift down the sand bar and channel on a run out tide for Flathead on soft plastics.
  • North Arm break wall Good spot for bream and luderick, winter fishes best for bream here.
  • Browns Rocks Great bream fishing in Winter, reef structure provides a great habitat, bait and lures work well. Mulloway are also caught around here.
  • Harwood Bridge A popular fishing spot at night for Mulloway, they will take live baits and soft plastics towards the end of the incoming tide. Bream and flathead are also around.
  • Oyster Channel Gutters The gutters and drains that flow back into Oyster channel along here all produce flathead on a run out tide, easy fishing!
  • Oyster Channel Sandbar Good whiting fishing on an incoming tide. Fairly shallow access in Oyster Channel.
  • Oyster Channel Bridge Fishing the pylons here will produce Bream and Luderick. This is a popular spot for Mulloway, particularly at night.
  • Micalo Channel Bridge Good fishing on a run out tide for Flathead, on the incoming tide Bream around the rocks.
  • Yamba Canals Good bream fishing on lures around the wharfs, take notice of any no fishing signs. Good flathead fishing on the run out tide towards the mouth of this canal system.
  • Romiaka Channel Great flathead fishing in the channel at the start of the run out tide, towards the end of the run out tide fish the mouth.
  • Clarence Valley The jettys / wharfs in here hold bream but take note of any no fishing signs.
  • Freeburn Island Gutter Fish along this shore line and at the gutter on a run out tide for Flathead, soft plastics bounced along the bottom work well.
  • Dart Island Fish the run out tide with soft plastics for Flathead along this sand bar. Whiting on a incoming tide.
  • Yamba Break wall bream A popular fishing spot for Bream and Luderick, fish the outgoing tide.
  • Marine Rescue Iluka Fish the tides for Bream and Luderick, this is a good fishing spots to get out of the current whether incoming or outgoing tide. Flathead are also caught here on all tides but going seems to be best.
  • Yamba Marina Fish off the rock wall for Bream and Luderick on bait. The trawler moorings have some great fishing at night on lures for Bream, but take note of any no fishing signs.
  • Whiting Beach A popular swimming spot in the corner, the beach along here is a great family fishing spot close to Yamba for Whiting and Flathead, fresh bait works the best!
  • Yamba Luderick A good spot for Luderick and Bream on the incoming tide, the back eddy here holds bait and slows the current down. Mulloway at night lurk around here waiting for a feed, fish the top of the incoming and start of the outgoing.
  • Iluka Break wall Fish either side for Bream and Tailor, metal slugs work well for tailor. Towards the end of the break wall anglers often catch longtail tuna, cobia, spanish mackerel and at night time the occasional mulloway.
  • Yamba South Wall Fish either side of the break wall, some great catches are made along here, take metal slices for Tailor, Longtail Tuna and the odd Spanish Mackerel from the end. Bream and the occasional Mulloway lurk along here, change of tide is great for Mulloway at night surfside.
