Where to go fishing near Geographe Bay?

  • Vasse Estuary Black Bream throughout the small estuary and creeks around Busselton.
  • Wonnerup Inlet Bream Black Bream and Whiting in the Wonnerup Estuary, small minnows and soft plastics worked slowly. Whiting on small poppers during the warmer months.
  • Wonnerup Estuary Fairly shallow, can fish well for small Black Bream, whiting, Skippy and the odd King George Whiting, expect most fish to be fairly small. The mouth of the estuary fishes well for Mulloway and should be done at night. After heavy rains is generally the best time when fishing for Mulloway around Busselton at the creek mouths.
  • Forrest Beach After heavy rains when the small creek opens to the ocean, Forrest Beach fishes well for Mulloway around the creek mouth. At other times the beach can also fish well for Tailor, Herring, Skippy and whiting.
  • Peppermint Grove Pepperment Grove Beach provides okay fishing for Tailor, Herring Skippy, Whiting and Flathead.
  • Capel River Mainly small Black Bream on small minnows and soft plastics work well, several land based based options for fishing Capel River, it can also be fished from a Kayak or Boat.
  • Busselton Jetty At the end of Jetty anglers can cast metal slugs to target Bonito and the odd Southern Bluefin Tuna, metal slugs are best worked fast through the water. Mulloway show up, best at night, target them on large 10-20mm soft plastics and soft rubber vibe lures, slowly jigged on the bottom. The odd samson fish.

    Hi guys
I’m quite new to fishing in Geographe Bay and would love any tips you might have. I like shore fishing but do have a small 4m boat that can get me offshore. I also hope to explore kayak fishing in the region. Interested in particular in smaller species whiting, herring, Taylor and squid with perhaps occasionally chasing something a little bigger. But so far have only had limited success. Any tips you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
