Where to go fishing near Evans Head Beach?

  • Goanna Headland A dangerous fishing spot, calm weather only! Fishing off the headland rock platforms produces Spanish Mackerel, Snapper, Tailor, Mulloway and Bream. Try a surface popper for Spanish Mackerel. Snapper will take soft plastics.
  • New Zealand Beach Good whiting and Bream fishing from the beach. The headland produces good Tailor.
  • Chinamens Beach Bream, whiting and the occasional mulloway, the shallow pools fill during the incoming tide and bream and whiting both move close in to feed.
  • Half Tide Beach Bream and Tailor out from here, best fished on a small swell on the incoming tide. The occasional mulloway is also caught along here particularly from dusk into the night.
  • Yabbies and Whiting Can pump yabbies here on low tide and whiting move onto the flats at high tide.
  • Iron Gates Submerged rocks along this stretch of river so be careful, downstream of here fishes well for Bream and Flathead, the gutters here fish well for Flathead both on a runout tide. On an incoming tide Bream turn on, this is a good spot for lures and bait, but it can be snaggy.
  • Evans River Gutters Fish any of these small gutters with pink soft plastics 3” with ¼ ounce jig heads for Flathead on the run out tide.
  • Evans River Boatramp Flathead Fish here on a run out tide for Flathead, soft plastics work best hopped along the bottom.
  • Evans River Bridge Land based access on the southern side, cast metal vibes and soft plastics at the pylons and left the lure sink to the bottom, slowly retrieved along the bottom should guarantee Bream and Flathead.
  • Fish Co-op The mouth of the harbour is a good spot to soak strip mullet bait for Bream and Luderick. Towards the fish co-op bream hang around the pylons and will take soft plastics floated down the side of the pylons. Bait works best.
  • Rocky Ledge Fish along here for Bream on an incoming tide, a good spot to soak bait.
  • North Breakwall Not as good as south breakwall, the northern rock wall has Bream and Tailor inside the mouth.
  • Evans Head south breakwall The south breakwall is a good fishing spot for Bream in summer, however all year round anglers can target Mulloway, Tailor and Luderick. A path extends the rock wall making it easy fishing.
