Arkwright Shoal has vary depths from 25 – 35m. There is good summer pelagic fishing for Mackerel. Winter time produces Pink Snapper mostly.

Where to go fishing near Arkwright Shoal?

  • Leach Shoal Good reef fishing at times.
  • David Low Bridge Rocky structure here is a popular spot for baiting Mangrove Jack during summer.
  • Oyster Bank Road Access to deeper water and good structure for land based anglers. The change of the tide produces Flathead and the odd Jewfish. Can be good Bream fishing in Winter when they prepare to spawn. The odd Mangrove Jack in summer.
  • Maroochy Drain Larger feed creek is always worth a cast around the mouth for Flathead on a run out tide. Bream move up onto the flats around here during the incoming tide also. Up the feeder creek is the odd Mangrove Jack and Cod.
  • Coolum Creek Junction Good flathead fishing on an outgoing tide around the drop offs where Coolum Creek meets the Maroochy River. Red or pink colour hard body and soft plastic lures work great.
  • Cane Train Bridge A good place to live bait for Mangrove Jack in Summer during the night. The rest of the year produces mostly Bream and Flathead.
  • Boggy Creek Mouth Good fishing for Flathead and Bream on a large run out tide. Hard body and soft plastic lures work well.
  • Apps Road A good spot to try live baiting for Mangrove Jack during the summer. Strip mullet baits also work. Fairly shallow rock and a deeper hole.
  • Caboolture Creek mouth Good snags around the mouth of this small feeder creek, usually holds fish. Flathead on the run out tide and Bream throughout the tidal movements.
  • South Maroochy River Mostly Bass and the odd Flathead in the brackish waters. The creek is fairly shallow and hard to navigate in boat, kayak fishing is the best option here. Land based access is restricted.
  • North Maroochy River Australian Bass throughout the North Maroochy River from Ninderry Bridge and upstream. This creek can only really be fished in a kayak. Working the snags and small back eddies will produce Bass, best fished in Summer.
  • Maroochy River upstream rubble Deeper water with a rubble bottom. The snags from here upstream hold Flathead, Bream and Mangrove Jack in Summer. Good place to work long sections of the Maroochy River with soft plastics and hard body lures.
  • Pincushion Island Some big bream are caught here in Winter. Tailor and Mulloway are also around during Spring. Setting out bait like strip mullet is the best way to target fish here.
  • Mudjimba Rocks Coffee rocks are usually exposed along the beaches of Mudjimba, provides good structure for Tarwhine and Dart.
  • Bli Bli Hole Deep hole here holds school jew at times. Best fished during Winter and Spring during a changing tide. Soft plastics and soft vibes jigged on the bottom and strip mullet baits are effective.
  • Maroochy River Feeder Creek no.1 Larger feeder creek that has Flathead on the last of the run out tide. Bream also to the south west in the deeper water.
  • Maroochy Feeder Creeks Fish the small feeder creeks on an outgoing tide for Flathead. Red soft plastics work really great on flathead in South East Queensland. Some feeder creeks fish better than others depending on the tide height. The odd bream and whiting on the flats here also but on an incoming tide.
  • Bli Bli Oyster Rack The oyster rack here provides good structure for Bream. It can fish well on both incoming and outgoing tides, small hard body minnows work well and are less likely to get snagged on the bottom. Setting out prawn baits is also effective. Flathead are caught here also on the outgoing tide.
  • Eudlo Creek Bass Australian Bass in Eudlo Creek, they will take a variety of lures, small hard body minnows like LivelyLures Micro Mullet always work well. Best fished in Summer to Autumn, wear boots and thick pants as snake are around.
  • Eudlo Creek Mangrove Jack Mangrove Jack have been caught in the deeper waters along this stretch of Eudlo Creek. Long casts and thoroughly working snags with soft plastics or hard body lures is key to success.
  • Petrie Creek Deep Deep waters around the bend and next bend further upstream. Good spot to set out a strip mullet bait for Mangrove Jack during summer.
  • Petrie Creek Mouth Fish the out going tide in the deeper hole around towards the shore for Bream and Flathead.
  • Twin Waters Sitting on live baits during summer can produce Mangrove Jack from the canals here. Rest of the year Bream are the main target species and can be taken on baits or small soft plastics and hard body lures. Target the rocky shore lines and around the bridge pylons.
  • Chambers Island Land based anglers can target Whiting and Bream on poppers here over summer. Best fished early morning or late afternoon into the night.
  • Black Bank Good flats fishing during a rising tide in Summer for Whiting and Bream. Small shallow diving hard body lures and lightly weight soft plastics are effective. During Winter and Spring the flathead fishing can be great here, target the drop offs and weed patches with soft plastics. Winter also produces the odd Trevally and Tailor here also. Target them with metal slugs and poppers.
  • Twin Waters Deep Hole Bream hold in the deep hole during the moving tides. Best fish with small vibes or baits. Trevally also turn up, large outgoing tides can fish very well here.
  • Channel Island Maroochydore Fish the outgoing tide with soft plastics for Flathead during Summer.
  • Maroochy Rock Wall Fish the rock wall on the smaller outgoing tides for Bream and Cod. Soft plastics work well here, also target the jetties pylons.
  • Point Arkwright A good platform for beach fishing, a deep gutter often runs down towards the beach. During summer, early mornings pelagics bust the surface not far offshore and often come in close enough to target with metal slugs. Spring is a good time to target Jewfish and Tailor on strip mullet. Tailor will also take metal slugs. Jewies can be caught on large shallow diving minnow lures on an incoming tide.
  • First Bay Coolum Good rock platform for beach fishing. Bait is the most effective and the main catch is dart. Jewfish have been caught on live bait and strip mullet, particularly during and after winter at night on an incoming tide. Tailor can also be caught here in Spring as they move along the coast. Early mornings and late afternoons are the best time to target Tailor.
  • Maroochy Cod Hole Heavily fished deep hole with a hard bottom. Holds large numbers of bait fish, best fished an hour either side of the tide and at the change of tides with soft plastics. Rumours of Barramundi and Mulloway living here.
  • Twin Waters Weir Small Bream around the weir. On an outgoing tide Trevally and Bream on the Maroochy River side. Fish the northern side on a large incoming tide. Soft plastics work well once the tidal flow has slowed.
  • Maroochy Flathead Good flathead fishing on the outgoing tide in Spring.
  • Sunshine Plaza Walk under the Sunshine Plaza or boat in for Bream, Flathead and Estuary Cod on Soft Plastics.
  • Maroochy River Bream Flats Fish the ever changing flats on an incoming tide for Bream, look got eddies and still water, soft plastics best.
  • Maroochy River Tailor Cast metal slugs into the turbulent water for Trevally and Tailor.
