Located 180km north of Port Hedland, Cape Keraudren is accessed via 13km of maintained unsealed dirt road. Camping is popular in the winter months as summer can get very hot although the fishing is better.

Cape Keraudren fishing spots are best done in a small boat to access the creeks and offshore, however there are a few good places to fish land based on high tide. The headlands produce Queenfish, Trevally and Mackerel on high tide, while the beaches produce the odd Threadfin Salmon. The small creek systems produce Threadfin Salmon, Blue Salmon, Cod, Mangrove Jack, Flathead, Bream and Barramundi in Summer.

Land based fishing at Cape Keraudren

The land based fishing at Cape Keraudren in at the points on high tide, anglers can use poppers, metal slugs and soft plastics quickly worked through the water which will produce Queenfish, Trevally and the odd Mackerel.

The large tides recede 500 – 800m from shore so low tide fishing isn’t possible, however the high tides are a good time to use bait along the beaches and creek mouth for Threadfin Salmon.

For the adventurous, walking the creeks on low tide and cast lure into the deep pools is a good way to catch the odd Mangrove Jack and Cod. Trevally, Bream and Flathead will also be stuck in the holes until the incoming tide. During neap low tides is generally the best time to walk the creeks, almost mud crabs can be found around the mangroves at low tide.

Cape Keraudren Fishing by boat

Around the mouth of the inlet is a good place to troll for Mackerel on high tide. Queenfish and Trevally are also around the rocks. Further offshore the shallow reefs produce Coral Trout and Tuskfish. The waters are pretty shallow until about 14nm offshore.

Inshore around the feeder creeks are Threadfin Salmon year ‘round and Barramundi in Summer. Working shallow diving lures around the small feeder creeks and mouths of the small creeks is a good way to target Threadfin Salmon as they move onto the flats in search of food. Threadfin Salmon and Barramundi will also lurk around the mangroves as the tide comes in, there are kilometers of mangroves to cast at. Choose areas where small feeder creeks snake into the mangroves on both the incoming and outgoing tides.

The better creeks for fishing at the next bay to the west, these creeks all hold Mangrove Jack, Cod, Threadfin Salmon and Barramundi.
