Albany Fishing Spots

Albany is a great fishing destination as it offers protection from prevailing winds from both the west and east due to Albany beaches facing different directions. The waters around Albany are so reasonably sheltered and access to great fishing spots doesn’t always require a four wheel drive or boat. King George Sound also offer boat based anglers fairly protected waters.

For the adventurous angler there is some fantastic rock fishing from the headlands around Albany during calm seas. The Rocky outcrops around Albany provide good fishing for Blue Groper, Queen Snapper, Pink Snapper, Samson Fish and Australian Salmon during the salmon run. Many of the rock headland fishing spots at Albany require a long walk, extreme care should be taken even in calm conditions when fishing from the rocks in Albany.

Bornholm Beach

Bornholm beach is a popular fishing location for Salmon, Herring and the occasional Mulloway, the salmon run occurs, March – May and October – September and the herring follow shortly after. Access is via four wheel drive only.

Shelley Beach

Easy access for all vehicles, Shelley beach fishes well for Australia Salmon

Mutton Bird Island

Easy access via 2wd then walk to the beach or drive on the beach with a Four Wheel Drive, anglers target Salmon, Herring and whiting.

Torbay Inlet

Torbay Inlet has some great Black Bream fishing on light tackle gear with lures. The bream in here will take all kinds of lures, soft plastics, hard body minnows and vibes are all success lures.

The Salmon Holes

A famous fishing spots close to Albany. Easily accessed via two wheel drive, the Salmon Holes fishes well for Australia Salmon during their annual migration. Target the deep channel that runs along the beach with metal slugs, sinking stick baits and hard body minnows. Herring are also caught from the beach, further up off the rocks Skippy, leatherjackets and bream are caught – extreme caution must be taken while fishing on the rocks.

Frenchman Bay

Good fishing here for Salmon, Pink Snapper and Samson fish from the rocks. Boat based fishing around Frenchman’s bay is much better, anglers fish for Bluefin Tuna, Bonito, Salmon, Queen Snapper, Pink Snapper and Samson fish.

Princess Royal Harbour

A sheltered harbour for small boat anglers, the harbour produces good fishing for Whiting, Herring, Skippy, Flathead and Squid.

Oyster Harbour

Oyster harbour is a better fishing spot for shore based anglers, in the shallows big flounder, flathead, whiting and herring can be targeted.

Kaglan River

A fantastic Black Bream fishing spot, flick small minnow hard bodies or soft plastics deep into structure to land some of the biggest bream in the South West. Black Bream love soft plastics, the key to success is ensuring the tail moves well on the drop and only use jig head weights around 1/12 – 1/24 ounce in weight.

Middleton Beach

Easy access from Albany, provides good fishing for Herring, Whiting and the occasional Salmon.

Two Peoples Bay

Easy access for all vehicles, a relatively shallow bay that fishes well for Flathead, Skippy, Herring and Whiting. Small boat launching access is also available from the beach, offshore boat based anglers can expect Pink Snapper, Queen Snapper, Samson Fish and Bluefin Tuna.

The Sand Patch

Excellent fishing for big Salmon, Mulloway, Herring, Flathead and Skippy. Accessible by all vehicles, however to the Sand Patch a difficult and steep walk is necessary.

Norman’s Beach

Great salmon fishing during the annual migration, a four wheel drive makes access easier otherwise be prepared to walk to Norman’s beach for fishing.

Cheyne Beach

A favourite amongst local anglers, Cheyne beach fishes will for Salmon, Skippy, Tarwhine and Herring from the beach. Head east towards Hassell beach from Cheyne Beach for the best fishing.

  • Cape Vancouver Great rock fishing for Samson Fish, Blue Groper, Yellowtail Kingfish, Skippy, Salmon and Herring.
