Where to go fishing near Lee Point?

  • Buffalo Creek Okay fishing for Barramundi, Bream, Flathead, Cod and whiting. During the low tide and start of the incoming, fish the creek and rock bars with hard body lures, slow retrieve. Warmer months, incoming tide fish from the mouth to the boat ramp with shallow diving hard body lures for Barramundi.
  • Sand Fly Creek Can be surprisingly productive for Barramundi, Threadfin Salmon and Trevally. During high tide focus efforts around the mangroves in the creek, as the tide runs out fish around the mouth with shallow diving hard body lures.
  • Dripstone Cliffs Great Bream and whiting fishing during the dry season, target them on small soft plastics lures, cast towards the small rocky outcrops on a incoming tide. Barramundi best from spring to summer, fish the top of the tide around the cliffs with both soft plastics and hard body lures.
  • Rapid Creek Best fished during a neap tide, top of the tide, run out tide and after heavy rains. The creek is heavily fished however the odd Barramundi, Trevally School and Queenfish still lurk around the creek looking for a easy feed. When the water is clear soft plastics work well, during the wet season when the water is murky hard body lures work better.
  • Nightcliff Cast hard body lures beside rocky out crops for the chance to land Trevally, Queenfish and the odd Barramundi.
  • East point Target Barramundi at the small rocky out crops scattered around the mud flats all year round. Best fished at low tide and the first few hours of the incoming tide, a slow retrieve with lots of pauses is the most effective technique. During winter Trevally and Queenfish can be caught on surface lures at the end of the point.
  • Fannie Bay Popular for Barramundi throughout the year, fish the last of the run in tide around the mangroves and rocks with suspending hard body lures with a slow retrieve for the best chance. Whiting and Bream during winter from the beach, Bream near the rocks.
  • Vesty’s Beach Fish the small creek during an outgoing tide for Mangrove Jack. During king tides and in the wet season the small creek mouth is a good place to fish for Barramundi on the out going tide.
  • Mindil Beach Whiting on a incoming tide and the odd Barramundi near the rocks.
  • Cullen Bay Fish the rock wall on the last of the run out tide with hard body lures for Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Trevally, Queenfish and Golden Snapper. Fish from the floating pontoon during the incoming tide, casting towards the rock wall.
  • Lameroo Beach / Esplanade Best fished during the start of the run in and the first of the run out tide for Barramundi, Cod, Trevally, Queenfish and Mangrove Jack. During the dry season great fishing for Trevally and Queenfish, Soft plastics and hard body lures all work well for feeding fish.
  • Deckchair Cinema The rock wall here is a good place to fish for Barramundi, Trevally and Queenfish. The area is relatively sheltered from most winds making it an ideal location for bait fish to take shelter.
  • Stokes Hill Wharf Barramundi, Black Jewfish, Queenfish, Trevally and Cod all frequent the area chasing down bait fish, they are all a possibility on lures. During winter Longtail Tuna also come close to the wharf and can be targeted on metal slugs.
  • Fishermans Wharf Best fished during the incoming tide, at the end of the jetty look for the murky discoloured water and cast shallow diving minnow lures using a slow retrieve for Barramundi. Bream in winter, will take small hard body and soft plastics lures, find them around the structure, pylons and in and around the wharf.
  • Dinah Beach Fish off the pontoon, casting towards the rock wall, Barramundi and Threadfin Salmon often hang around this area waiting for prawns and bait-fish on a falling tide. The best times to fish is during summer or after a down-pour of rain when the prawns are washed out of the mangroves, a imitation prawn lure is a good choice. The mud flats on a falling tide is also a good place to flick a lure.
  • Bayview Mangrove Jack and Golden Snapper, cast soft plastics and hard bodies around the rock wall and at the lock, rig soft plastics weedless if fishing tight along the rock wall. Barramundi mainly at night near the lights. Fish the large drains that run out from the lock also.
  • East Arm Barramundi and Mangrove Jack around the mangroves on the outgoing tide. Cast tight into the mangroves with a hard body lures. Also holds Bream during winter around the pontoon, they will take small soft plastics drifted down beside the pylons and around the rocks.
